There is nowhere in my mind that says it’s OK to raise fees when site traffic is down by 20 Million visitors a day.
eBay Sellers are reporting all time lows in sell thru rates and ending prices and many high level sellers are either calling it quits or leaving eBay for other ventures.
eBay’s justification for raising fees was their own mistake in placing too much emphasis on eBay stores, so in order to restore balance, they needed to raise store fees. Brilliant.
The only reason why sellers use eBay stores is because eBay already raised auction fees by roughly 100% for many sellers in the last 18 months. The sellers had no other option but embrace the store model and hope for the best.
Investors have started to snap up eBay stock again, but I wonder why investors ignored the fact that eBay traffic is plunging.
There is going to be a breaking point and I believe it is coming soon. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to look at the traffic chart and see the problem. eBay’s answer has always been “raise fees”, but there will be a point when eBay sellers can no longer “eat” the fee increases.
