On the day that Ken Walton’s book “Fake: Forgery, Lies & eBay” was released — April 25 — there was a knock on his door.
The man at the door was dressed in a suit and tie. When Walton opened the door, he expected to hear the opening spiel of a Jehovah’s Witness.
Instead, the man flipped a badge and said he was a special agent.
That’s when Walton — who thought he’d moved past the years-long shame of living as a con artist — descended once again into paranoia.
Lucky for him, the agent was just returning the laptop they’d borrowed so long ago when building a case against him.
Except, really, it had nothing to do with luck.
The mentor
“Fetterman,” the Army buddy who introduced Walton to eBay, was always scamming something, always looking for a shortcut, always avoiding responsibility.
