Keira Knightley’s donated Oscar gown, which the charity Oxfam had been auctioning off on eBay since April 21st, sold for more than C$8,700 on Monday (May 1) when the bidding was extended due to the positive response.
The one-shoulder, deep-claret taffeta gown was custom-made for the ‘Pride & Prejudice’ star (who was up for the Best Actress Academy Award) by Vera Wang.
“We had no idea how much interest there would be and so we are very pleased,” said a spokesperson for Oxfam. “People should be aware that £4,000 [approximately C$8,000] would be enough money to feed 5,000 children in Tanzania, who are facing the worst food crisis they have known, for a whole month.”
