journalnow.com:

Eleven years ago, a San Jose, Calif. entrepreneur named Pierre Omidyar started holding online auctions on the Web site of his consulting business, Echo Bay Technology Group. Over time, that project grew into eBay, one of the Internet’s most popular and profitable sites. In 2005, the company made more than $4.5 billion in revenue.

Omidyar is the chairman of eBay and has a net worth of more than $10 billion, according to Forbes magazine’s 2006 survey of the world’s billionaires. Meg Whitman, who joined the company in 1998, is eBay’s president and chief executive - and also a billionaire, with a net worth of $1.5 billion.
