eBay Scams

The scams designed to part people from their money just keep coming - and some area residents keep falling for them.

“One of the new ones targets people selling things on eBay,” said Detective Sgt. Stephen Sipes of the Flint state police post. “Say you’re selling a car for $10,000 and somebody says they’re sending you $12,000. Then you know something is wrong.”

In this scheme, the “buyer” of whatever is being sold, (in this example, a car) sends the seller more money than the seller asks for. It’s intended to prove how serious he is about purchasing it.
