Baltimore Sun:

It didn’t take long before people began cashing in on Kimmie Meissner.

Even as the 16-year old Bel Air ice skater was landing her triple lutz triple toe combination in Turin yesterday, there were 24 postings on eBay by people selling autographed photos, newspaper clippings, signed ice skates and autographs connected to starlet Meissner.

Among the goods was a “Brand new! Never opened, mint condition” copy of Harford Schools, a monthly newspaper produced by the school system that is mailed free to 33,000 people — mostly to families with children in the county’s public school system.

The February edition listed with the auction Web site yesterday featured a front-page spread on Meissner and interviews with her parents and classmates.

“That is hysterical,” said Teri Kranefeld, a publication specialist with the school system who helps produce the paper. “That is so funny. I just have to laugh.”

As of last night, the seller was asking $6.98 (which includes $1.99 for shipping).

“I have a whole box [of the papers] sitting right in front of me, I didn’t know it was that hot of a commodity,” Kranefeld said.
