Internet auctioneer EBay Inc. on Tuesday named EDS Corp. executive Bob Swan as chief financial officer, with current CFO Rajiv Dutta moving over to run the company’s Skype Internet-phone service.
Swan, who was also CFO at Electronic Data Systems, will be eBay’s pointman on all matters financial, including mergers and acquisitions, the company said. He’ll take over March 16, eBay said.
“Bob’s track record leading the financial strategy and direction of major companies like EDS and TRW makes him the ideal person to shepherd eBay into our next decade of growth,” eBay Chief Executive Meg Whitman said in a statement.
“Bob’s great depth of financial experience and knowledge make him a worthy successor to Rajiv, who so expertly guided eBay over the last five years,” she added.
Dutta, who joined eBay in 1998, is set to become president of Skype, the Internet-phone company that eBay bought last year for a pricy $4.1 billion. EBay began a search for a new CFO last fall after indicating that Dutta would take over Skype.
